Dark Phoenix - Color by mijka Dark Phoenix - Color by mijka
Dark Phoenix, of Marvel's X-Men fame as the single most over-done, beat into the ground, oh-my-god-we-can't-take-it-anymore-but-we-STILL-love-it fame.

I was studying, I got bored. I doodled. Then I traced onto more serious cardstock grade paper and proceeded to ink with India ink and Microns.

Color is provided courtesy of Painter X and Photoshop, by way of a nifty Intuos 3.

Textures used include (what I think is) Hubble Telescope photography, for the nebula, several custom textures of my own and a glitter-texture from :iconkuschelirmel-stock:

I realize the color job isn't quite what one might call perfect, however, on the upside, I do sort of like the chaotic effect somewhat inherent in the lack of tidyness and perfection.

'sides, I've wanted to upload this for a while, and don't seem to be getting my act together to tidy it up :P

Dark Phoenix is copyright Marvel Comics etc etc etc.

Despite my incessant griping, the final result came out pretty close to what I was hoping for, all told, so I'm glad you like it, too.

I like the way you have the phoenix wrapping around her and over the back of her head - lovely composition - hot colours!

She is utterly diabolical in this. I love the smirk. The hair to phoenix is a very nice touch as well.

:)

The smirk actually worked WAY better in the original sketch (before I cleaned and inked it). Her lips were fuller and the dimple played better. I'd actually fixed it before a semi-random Photoshop crash lost an hour or two's work.

I am glad you like, though :}

Thank you!

I'm kind of iffy about it myself, but I'm glad you like it!

love, the colors and the design work. the Phoenix as some kind of god is a cool concept.

Well, to be fair, it was always supposed to be a Cosmic Force... you know, omnipotent and omniscient and whatnot. I assume there's very little difference from there to a more classical definition of godhood ;)

Yeah your right, even in the comic books and the cartoon also, the Phoenix had the power to absorb a entire star, almost like Galactus, but way more powerful

The Phoenix, well, the original, Jean Grey, as both Phoenix and Dark Phoenix was an insanely cool concept character. Unfortunately, she was too powerful for the book's line at the time and they had to kill her off.

Then they just beat her into the dirt.

Which was sad.

Aaaand yet, she remains, like, the coolest character ever :D
